Rained-out concert series returns Thursday

Beckwith Park Summer Concert Series will grace downtown Dowagiac with music Thursday evening after getting rained out last week.

In traditional fashion, Beckwith Park has become home to musical evenings each Thursday, much like the musical fare presented in Dowagiac in the late 1800s. The Dowagiac Chamber of Commerce and the DowagiacDowntown Development Authority co-sponsor the event, which is underwritten by Huntington Bank. While the series was set to kick-off with Dowagiac Union High School Chamber Choir and Women’s Chorale, the show was canceled due to sudden rain.

Moving on with the series, the Round Oak Cornet Band will take the stage at 7:30 p.m.

The series welcomes several different bands and musicians from around southwest Michigan and invites music lovers from any genre. Styles of music included in the series feature bluegrass, Tex Mex Americana, country, Southern rock, hits of the 1940s, jazz big band and covers of musical greats such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Phil Collins.

The series will continue throughout the summer at 7:30 p.m. each Thursday at Beckwith Park in downtown Dowagiac. For more information, contact the Chamber of Commerce at (269) 782-8212.
