In pursuit of higher learning, Eastside Connections students are looking toward the sky.

Christine Lace’s fourth-grade class invited a handful of community members to a class presentation on the Solar System Tuesday morning at the Niles magnet school.

The students sang a song on the phases of the moon before giving individual oral presentations on specific aspects on the solar system, including the planet Mercury, stars, comets and constellations.

Lace said each student was assigned a topic to research and present.

The class also created a scale model of the solar system.

The solar system project was part of the school’s project-based learning curriculum.

Those in attendance were treated to donuts, coffee and juice.
