The Dowagiac Elks Club’s Junior Golf Program will begin its 14th season Monday.

The program, which was started by former Dowagiac Mayor Dr. James Burke and Audrey Atkinson, is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 14.

The program meets once a week on Mondays at the Dowagiac Elks Club Golf Course. The cost is $50 per golfer. The program runs June 11 through July 30 from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m.

This program teaches basic golf shots, golf rules and good golf etiquette. Most of the current Dowagiac Union High School golf team members got their start in this program.

At the end of the program, there is a tournament with trophies to age group winners and a luncheon. All participants also receive a framed certificate.

Sign up sheets are now available at the Elks Golf Course. For additional information contact Dick Morey at 424-5863.

The golf course has reduced rates for students at $5 for nine holes.
