Lester’s life began May 20, 1926, in Dowagiac, the son of Albert and Lavinna (White) Wares. He was united in marriage to Wanda Bryant on July 7, 1945, in South Bend. Lester served in the US.. Navy during World War II in the Philippines. He had worked for Clark Equipment for several years. After Lester retired, he attended Southwestern Michigan College and had earned an Associate’s Degree. He liked to hunt, be in his garden and work on cars, especially tinkering on motors. Lester was a member of Second Baptist Church where he was very active. He was a church deacon for 50 years and also a treasurer.

Lester’s loving family includes his children, Aaron (Letha) Wares of Willis; Yvonne Young of Dowagiac; Damon Wares of Dowagiac; Lorin Wares of Niles; Perry (Cheryl) Wares of Dowagiac; Marvin Wares of Clarksville, Tenn.; special niece, Doris White; 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Lester passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Timbers of Cass County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Wares; children, Duncan Wares, Phillip Wares, Stephanie Wares; brothers and sisters, Glen White, Rex, Leonard, Milton, Robert, Fred and Marion Wares, Louise Porter and Delores Wares.

His family will gather with friends on Tuesday, June 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Yazel and Clark Chapel. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Second Baptist Church with the Rev.
