Niles out, Bucks advance in soccer

VICKSBURG — The host Bulldogs scored a pair of goals on breakaways in the final 1:30 of the Division 2 District soccer first round match to give Vicksburg a 5-3 win over Niles Tuesday.

The Vikings had battled back from a 2-1 halftime deficit to tie the match at 3-3 with six minutes remaining.

But a pair of goals by the Bulldogs eliminated the Vikings from the state tournament.

Alexis Arnold, McKayla Book and Kaytlyn Miller all scored goals for Niles.

Hailey Klingel had two goals for Vicksburg, which also got goals from Casey Kloosterman, Brianna Wines and Abbey Stasik.

Division 3

BUCHANAN —Morgan French scored with 28:02 showing on the first half clock to lift the Bucks to a 1-0 victory in the opening round of the Division 3 Soccer Tournament Tuesday.

Bailey McCarty got the assist on the lone goal of the night.

The Wildcats outshot the Bucks 18-11.

Buchanan will now take on host Paw Paw Wednesday in the second semifinal at 7 p.m.

The Redskins defeated Coloma to advance to the semifinals. Dowagiac defeated Comstock and Parchment defeated Berrien Springs in the other first round matches.
