Niles graduating 200 seniors

Niles High School will bid a fond farewell to the Class of 2012 this week.

Approximately 200 seniors will be receiving their diplomas Thursday evening during the school’s 150th Commencement Ceremony.

Principal Jim Knoll said 200 seniors graduated last year, 206 in 2010 and 222 in 2009.

Graduation is at 7 p.m. at the high school football field. In case of inclement weather, graduation will be moved to the high school gymnasium.

Seniors are being asked to be at the high school gymnasium at 9:30 a.m. Thursday for graduation practice. Seniors should be at the school by 6:15 p.m. Thursday to get ready for graduation.

Graduating senior Torence Witherspoon will be one of three guest speakers, including valedictorians Alison Dawson and Daniel Touhey.

Eighteen graduating seniors will be wearing blue honor cords signifying they are members of the National Honor Society.

One-hundred and five students will be wearing gold honor cords showing they maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average during all four years of high school.

Senior Monica Bielski will welcome those in attendance, while senior Maureen Craig will present the Class of 2012 with a gift. Senior Abigail McKeel will perform the tassel ceremony.
