After giving up two runs in the first inning to visiting Dowagiac Wednesday, the Edwardsburg softball team went on a tear and swept the Chieftains.
The Eddies rallied to win the first game 7-2 and then dominated the nightcap, winning 13-3.
Jill Blough tossed a three-hitter after settling down. She finished with three strikeouts.
The Eddies got two hits from Tanner Kiessel, while Andrea LaPlace drove in a pair of runs, as did Blough, who doubled. Rachel Borden was 2-for-2 for the Eddies.
Kristyn Turner, Rachel Bailey and Shelby Huston all singled for the Chieftains.
Taylor Meiser took the loss.
An 11-run third inning broke open a scoreless second game for the Eddies.
Kiessel ended up with four RBIs in the game, two of which came home on her third-inning double.
Nicole Brooks, Teryn Williams, Kiessel, LaPlace and Hurst all had two hits for Edwardsburg, which finished with 13. LaPlace also drove in four runs for the Eddies.
Dowagiac managed five hits, all singles. Turner, Amanda Craft, Sierra Herter, Bailey and Courtney Hunsberger each had a hit for the Chieftains.
Katie Ward worked the first three innings and suffered the loss. Tori Smith pitched the final inning.
“We did get better today defensively and at the plate,” Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke said. “I am still not satisfied, but it is good the work we put in the last two days at practice led to improvement.
“Now we just need to continue to improve coach and every day here on out to prepare ourselves for districts.”
