Weekly cruises to boat museum

If it has a motor and looks cool, Mahogany Outfitters Boat Museum in Cassopolis will welcome it beginning 6 p.m. June 4 for the first season of weekly cruise-ins.
The concept, which began through Dr. Roger Pecina and Mark Hosaflook of Afdent in Mishawaka, Ind., is the first for southwest Michigan. After cruise-ins at the Hooter’s Restaurent in Mishawaka outgrew the space, Hoseflook and Pecina decided to bring the event to Cassopolis. Every Monday night throughout the summer, guests are invited to bring their motorized vehicles for an evening of free food, browsing and weekly prizes.
“It’s for anyone with an interest really,” Hosaflook said. “You don’t even have to drive something, you can just come to look and hang out.”
Each Monday evening will welcome guest judges who will award trophies and plaques to those with the best car, truck, boat, tractor or motorcycle.
“We’re really hoping to bring in a new crowd with the cruise-ins,” Hosaflook said. “We also would love to see some of the Mishawaka crowd join us, too.”
The cruise-ins will last until Aug. 6, the last date for the summer season. Pecina will be on hand to serve hamburgers and hotdogs, free of charge to any guest.
“It doesn’t have to be old or antique cars,” Pecina said. “Whatever you drive, you can bring it over.”
Mahogany Outfitters Boat Museum is located at 980 E. State St., Cassopolis. For more information, call the museum at (269) 445-3100.
