Olan D. Christian, 94, of Garver Lake, Edwardsburg, passed to his rest May 21, 2012, at Elkhart General Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born March 26, 1918, in Kenova, W.Va., to Fred and Elizabeth (Fox) Christian.
Olan’s family moved to Elkhart, and he graduated from Elkhart Central High School. He was employed for years at E.K. Blessing Band Instrument Co., then worked at Speedgrip Chuck as chief inspector; both were in Elkhart. Later, he was the Adamsville Cemetery sexton in Edwardsburg for many years, before giving the sexton work to his son, David.
Olan’s enjoyment was his desire to

cook and bake for his family. He would make meals, with dessert, to perfection. His food was always good. He was an excellent artist and did many sketchings for his family. He liked to artistically do signs, and made many signs and lettering, as well as paintings.
Olan was married April 8, 1939, in Elkhart to Junaita A. Roland, and she passed April 25, 1997.
Surviving are their children, Barbara (Bob) Vance, of Elkhart; Martha Christian, of Edwardsburg; Daniel Christian and Mark (Monica) Christian, both of Elkhart; and David Christian, of Edwardsburg. There are 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Cremation will take place.
A memorial graveside service will be Saturday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at Adamsville Cemetery with Olan’s good friend, the Rev. Clearance Dycus, a retired Baptist minister, officiating.
