When you are out having fun this summer, make sure to bring a camera.

You could win a lot of money. Leader Publications will be awarding $500 to the photo receiving the most votes in its upcoming Summer Fun Photo Contest, sponsored by Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Participants can submit photos by accessing the contest page link on any Leader Publications website. The submission period is Saturday through Sept. 3. All entries must be submitted online and users can submit as many as five photos per month. You must be at least 13 years old to enter.

Photos can be submitted in the following six categories:

• Events and festivals

• Summer vacations, which could be taken anywhere near or far

• Backyard and neighborhood fun, which could include block parties and barbecues

• Summer sports, including outdoor activities such as fishing and camping

• My pet’s summer fun

• Summer scenery

Voting will take place in two rounds.

In the first round, the three photos receiving the most votes in each category will advance to the second round. In the second round, voters will choose their favorite photo from the remaining 18 photos.

First-round voting takes place Sept. 4-16. Second-round voting is Sept. 17-30. A $500 cash prize will be awarded to the owner of the photo receiving the most votes in the second round.

Additionally, five members of the Leader Publications staff will choose their favorite photos and award prizes several times throughout the contest. A variety of prizes will be handed out, including, but not limited to, Pizza Transit pizza and passes to the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Festival at Weko Beach June 16.

Submitted photos could appear on Leader Publications’ Facebook fan pages and in the daily paper.

“In our last contest we got a lot of scenery, which is great, but what I’m striving for is people,” said Michael Bennett, Leader Publications publisher. “I want to have people, friends, family, neighbors having fun in the area.”
