The Niles softball team finished with 30 hits in winning the Matt Kurtis Invitational at Brandywine Saturday.

The Vikings defeated the host Bobcats 11-3 and Gobles 11-5. Brandywine defeated Gobles 8-4.

“You know it’s a good day when you get down with two games and look in the book and have 30 hits,” Niles coach Ryan Frontczak said. “I thought we played good today, not great. We had chances to put both teams away early and just didn’t take advantage of it.

“We need to keep working on the little things to take us to the next level. The good thing is our girls are willing to put in the work to get us where we need to be. I feel that the girls went quiet from time to time today, but we still had a goal and that was to win the tourney and we did it.”

Molly VanDeKeere picked up both wins for the Vikings. She also had a triple in the game against Brandywine.

Niles finished with 13 hits against the Bobcats, including a pair of doubles by Tala Gentry.

Justine Sater had two hits for Brandywine. Mikaya Kemp took the loss.

“We talked after the game and the best we could have done at the end of the day was be 2-0 and we were that team,” Frontczak said. “We have a number of girls in our lineup right now that are seeing the ball well and driving it at the perfect time.

“We are in the final stages of our season and are working hard to see what we can do in these last couple of weeks.”

Against Gobles, the Bobcats got three hits from Rachel Ort and doubles by Victoria Ebersol, Tori Hunt and Kemp.
