MedFlight called for tractor rollover

Daily News photo MedFlight rescued a man pinned under his tractor Saturday after the machine tipped over from plowing on an incline.

Fredrick Kirsch, 71, of Dowagiac, was tilling his farmland at 8:34 p.m. Friday when the tractor he was operating on an incline rolled over and pinned him. Kirsch was trapped under the tractor as it caught fire but was able to call for assistance, Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reported.

The accident occurred at 57109 M-62, LaGrange Township and closed the highway.

Emergency personnel from Dowagiac Fire, Wayne Township Fire, Pride Care Ambulance, Dowagiac Police and Cassopolis Police responded to assist Cass County deputies with the accident.

Kirsch was extricated from the tractor and airlifted by MedFlight to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Alcohol was not a factor in this incident.

Driver dies after hitting pedestrian

Emergency personnel were called  at 10:40 p.m. Saturday to the scene after a truck driven by Jimmy Emerick, 80, of Three Rivers, struck Nathaniel Gibson, 23, of Union.

Emerick was driving south on Sunset Boulevard, when he struck Gibson who was walking along the dirt shoulder in Porter Township.

Emergency personnel from Porter Fire/Ambulance and Osolo Ambulance assisted deputies at the crash.  Gibson was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for his injuries.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports the driver was Gregory A. Snyder, 28  of Bristol, Ind. Snyder died as a result of the incident, which remains under investigation.

Crash results in fatality

Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his office is investigating a single vehicle crash which occurred on 05-20-2012 around 0316 hrs on the eastbound lanes of M-60 at the overpass with US-12 in Milton Twp, Cass County, Michigan.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene of the crash and found the driver in the roadway, away from his vehicle.  Edwardsburg Ambulance transported the driver to South Bend Memorial Hospital.  Deputies were assisted on scene by Niles Police Department, Niles Twp Fire Department, Howard Twp Fire Department and the Michigan State Police.

Initial investigation shows the vehicle was eastbound on U.S. 12/M-60 traveling under the overpass when it crashed into the left guard rail.

The vehicle then continued down the roadway until coming to rest on the right side of the road on the other side of the overpass.  The driver was found laying in the roadway when emergency units arrived on scene.
