Chieftains split with Plainwell

Host Dowagiac split a Wolverine Conference doubleheader with Plainwell Friday.

The Trojans won the first game 7-0, while the Chieftains rallied to earn the split with a 10-5 win in the second game. The nightcap was called after six innings due to darkness.

In the second game, Dowagiac banged out 10 hits, including doubles from Logan Pellow, Austin Broda, Cal Cox and Brett Scanlon.

Pellow finished with three hits and two RBIs. Broda had two hits and drove in a run. Cox and Scanlon also picked up RBIs, as did Matt Smith.

Cox earned the victory in relief of starter Brody Froehlich.

The Chieftains finished with five hits in the first game, all singles.

Dowagiac is now 5-18-1 overall and 2-9-1 in Wolverine contests.
