Gilbert C. “Bert” Weller, 74, of Dowagiac, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, in Berrien Specialty Hospital. He was born in Chicago on Nov. 30, 1937, to Oliver and Rose Weller.

He married Candy Sue Miracle who preceded him in death Oct. 19, 2009. He was also preceded by his parents and two brothers.
Gilbert served in the U.S. Navy. He spent many years as an over the road truck driver for Brigg’s Transportation in Chicago. After moving to Michigan, he and his wife owned and operated a residential construction firm. He enjoyed many hobbies including Sunday NASCAR and running various places with his grandson.
He is survived by two daughters, Kim Weller and Julie Weller, both of Chicago; two sons, Randy Smith and Charles Weller, both of Dowagiac; two granddaughters, Ashley Smith of Three Rivers and Tori Cook of Decatur; one grandson, Jaylen Weller of Dowagiac; three sisters and three brothers.
Family and friends gathered Saturday, May 5, from 5 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 N. Broadway St., Cassopolis, with the Rev. Casey Helmuth officiating. Mr. Weller was given full military honors and was laid to rest beside his beloved late wife, Candy Sue Weller, in Riverside Cemetery, Dowagiac.
