Two people were injured in a two-car head-on crash early Sunday morning in Jefferson Township, Cass County.

Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his office is investigating a crash on Pine Lake Street near Mullen Road.

Initial investigation shows that Kevin Miller, 51, of Niles, was eastbound on Pine Lake Street and that Lucas Luth, 29, of Edwardsburg, was westbound on Pine Lake Street when the two vehicles collided. Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles by firefighters. Both vehicles air bags deployed and both drivers appeared to have been wearing seatbelts.

Miller was transported by Edwardsburg Ambulance to South Bend Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Luth was air-lifted by Memorial MedFlight to South Bend Memorial for his injuries.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.

Emergency personnel from Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Life Care Ambulance, Edwardsburg Fire and Ambulance, Memorial Medflight and Edwardsburg Ontwa Township Police Department responded to the crash scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
