Niles takes nightcap

EDWARDSBURG — Visiting Niles rallied to earn a split in its non-conference baseball doubleheader Thursday.

The Vikings fell to the Eddies 2-1 in the opening game as Kyle Slack scored the winning run on a single by Michael Kempton. Slack had tied the score at 1-1 when he doubled home Ian Lower.

Garret Bronkama picked up the win for the Eddies in relief of starter Caleb Dill.

Niles earned the split by winning the nightcap, 6-2.

The Vikings scored single runs in the first and seventh innings and two runs in the third and sixth innings.

Cody Glick went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Niles, which also got RBIs from Matthew McLaughlin, Tyler Parish and Taylor Weldy.

Tate Brawley picked up the win as he scattered eight hits and struck out four.
