With only one home track meet on the schedule against arch rival Lakeshore, the Viking track teams were more than expected to get a sweep of the Lancers Tuesday.

The Niles boys team found itself in quite a battle, but prevailed over Lakeshore 93-70 on Senior Day.

The Vikings won the girls meet by nearly the exact same margin. Niles defeated the Lancers 93.5-69.5.

In the boys meet, Brandon Partee won both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles. Sam VandenHeede was a double individual winner as he captured both the 1,600- and 3,200-meters.

Ronnie Jones was the third Viking to win three events as an individual as he captured the 100- and 200-meters.

All three are seniors.

Niles and Lakeshore split the relay events with the Vikings taking the 800- and 1.600-meter events, while Lakeshore won the 3,200- and 400-meters.

“It was senior day, the only home meet of the year and Lakeshore proved to be a lot tougher than I thought they were going to be,” Niles boys coach Tony Todd said. “They ran excellent, hats off to Lakeshore. We got a gutsy performance by Quintin Irby in the mile relay. Brandon Partee was really strong in the hurdles, earning 10 points by himself as an individual and he was part of the four-by-two (800-meter relay).”

For the girls, Niles had a big day from senior Taylor Brandstatter who the 400-meters and was part of multiple winning relay teams.

Ashley Love won two individual events as she captured the 100-meters and the long jump.

Niles won the 3,200-, 800- and 1,60-meter relays.

“We will take that win against Lakeshore any day,” Niles coach Dan Kyle said. “If that’s our only win at home, we will take it. I am really happy with the girls today. They came out and did what they needed to do to place where they needed to place.”
