Niles library hosts history day

The Niles District Library, 620 E. Main St. in Niles, will host Local History Day 2012 on May 12.

• 1 p.m. — Bob Myers of the Berrien County Historical Association

Did you know the 12th Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry was organized in Niles? Myers will tell more about this local connection to the Civil War.

• 2 p.m. — The Michiana Civil War Re-enactors

Ever wonder what everyday life was like for Civil War soldiers and their families? The Michiana Civil War Re-enactors, representing the Union and the Confederacy, will tell about life in the 1860s. They will do their best to answer questions about their apparel, camp life and how their families made do in their absence.

• 4:30 p.m. (weather permitting) tour
Friends of Silverbrook hosts a guided walking tour of the Civil War-era portion of the cemetery.
