Carol Grandholm, Union High School media specialist, has received a $10,000 Pokagon Fund grant.
In 2009, while at the middle school before moving to DUHS this year, Grandholm landed a $20,244 grant which added 2,000 fresh fiction and nonfiction titles to update the collection moved from Central into the new 2005 middle school.
Grandholm expects $10,000 to add 947 books to alleviate DUHS deficiencies.
While the high school has more students — 636 compared to the middle school’s 546 — its collection is smaller, 2,057 titles to 3,720 at the middle school.
Grandholm has been with Dowagiac for nine years of her 26-year public and school library career.
“I’m so indebted to The Pokagon Fund,” she said Wednesday.
The Pokagon Fund in New Buffalo is supported by 1 percent of electronic gaming revenue from the Dowagiac-based Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians’ Four Winds Casino Resort. It is managed by a seven-member board of directors.
