Brandywine High School has been given the green light to enter into an agreement with Lake Michigan College that would essentially relocate LMC’s machine tool shop to Brandywine.

The Brandywine school board unanimously approved the agreement Monday.

Lake Michigan College will enter into a lease with Brandywine for use of Brandywine’s machine tool shop. Lake Michigan College will also pay for about $11,000 worth of renovations and upgrades to Brandywine’s current machine tool shop. Lake Michigan College’s machine tool equipment will be relocated to Brandywine.

In March, Brandywine Supt. John Jarpe called the partnership a win-win for both schools and area students. With the move, Lake Michigan College will be able to free up classroom space at its Niles campus and Brandywine will get improvements to its machine tool shop.

Lake Michigan College would use Brandywine’s machine tool shop in the late afternoon and evening. High school classes would take place during the day.

Renovations are expected to begin in June with a tentative open house date set for August.
