LANSING — Southwest Michigan residents have an additional tool to use when planning outdoor activities this year: the MI Camping and Recreation Locator mobile application, said Sen. John Proos. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) app is available at no cost at BlackBerry App World, Android Market and Apple App Store.
“The DNR’s mobile app is about making it easier for Michigan families and out-of-state visitors to get out and enjoy our state’s wonderful natural resources,” said Proos, R-St. Joseph. “I encourage southwest Michigan outdoors enthusiasts to take advantage of this app to locate information about out state parks, forest campgrounds, boat launches and other state outdoor activities. It is easy to use and free of charge.”
The MI Camping and Recreation Locator app allows users to search for state parks, forest campgrounds and boat launches by region, city or proximity. Features include:
n Camping, lodging and boating information;
n Maps showing the location of each state park, forest campground and boat launch;
n Distance between you and each recreational opportunity; and
n Click-to-call phone numbers to easily contact the recreational facilities.
State park and forest information, such as size of the park, special rules, description of the park and activities you can find there; and information about outdoor recreational opportunities, such as swimming, hiking and horseback riding, are available through the app. Boat launch information, such as name and size of the lake, river or pond; details about the ramp; and number of parking spaces, is also featured.
“This convenient resource will help residents and tourists find the best place for them and their families to camp, hike, boat and swim — many of which are right here in southwest Michigan.” Proos said. “Michigan’s great outdoors offers a variety of activities, and this app will help insure that everyone has a fun and enjoyable time.”
