LANSING — Sen. John Proos and Rep. Sharon Tyler welcomed the 2012 Blossomtime Festival pageant finalists to the state capitol Wednesday.
“The Blossomtime Festival is a great tradition in Southwest Michigan, celebrating our rich agricultural heritage and everything the region has to offer,” said Proos, R-St. Joseph. “I am proud and honored to host this great group of young people at the Capitol. They are excellent community representatives and volunteer throughout the region in their leadership roles.”
The 106-year-old Blossomtime Festival and parade are the oldest and largest multi-community events in Michigan.
“I look forward to hosting the Blossomtime royalty each year because their enthusiasm for and dedication to the great Southwest is evident to everyone they encounter,” said Tyler, R-Niles. “I am always impressed by the poise and grace of these fine young men and women, and it is an honor to have this group of young people representing our communities.”
In 2001, the Blossomtime Scholarship Fund began awarding more than $10,000 in scholarships each year. For more information, visit www.blossomtimefestival.org.
