Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz will seek a third term, he announced Monday.
Fitz, 54, was previously elected as prosecutor in 2004 and 2008 after he had been appointed by Circuit Court Judge Michael Dodge in May 2003.

“My office has proven its ability to hold murderers, meth manufacturers, child molesters, home invaders and other dangerous criminals accountable,” Fitz said. “This has made our community a safer place.”
Fitz noted that, during his tenure, the prosecutor’s office has a 91 percent conviction rate in its circuit court jury trials, including 100 percent of murder cases and 95 percent of drug cases.
“This sends a clear message,” Fitz said. “When drug dealers, violent offenders and other criminals take us to trial, they will be convicted.”
Fitz said he believes Cass County has “one of the most effective offices in the state when it comes to protecting the public and convicting criminals.”
Fitz’s office has come in $185,647 under budget during the past nine years.
In 2009, Fitz’s Victim Witness Unit was recognized by the Prosecuting Attorney Association of Michigan for registering the most victim notifications per capita in the state.
Fitz has served in the field of prosecution since 1983.
