BUCHANAN — Jennifer Sporleder scored three goals, including the game-winner as visiting Edwardsburg defeated Buchanan 4-2 in its Lakeland Conference opener Tuesday night.

Brittney Minnix put the Eddies on the board first and then Sporleder took over from there.

Her first goal gave the Eddies (1-2, 1-0 Lakeland) a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Bucks scored the first two goals of the second half to tie the match at 2-2 before Sporleder tallied twice more to earn the hat trick.

Her goal with 24:51 remaining in the match ended up being the game-winner.

She capped the scoring at 5:41.

“This was a good step in the right direction for the girls this spring,” Edwardsburg coach Brett Harring said. “We controlled the ball well with our passing and movement. Our spacing in the midfield improved exponentially from our last game against Niles.

“I felt Jenn and Paige Szlanfucht connected really well for us up front and created a lot of scoring opportunities.”
