PAW PAW — The Wolverine Conference opened its golf season Thursday with Paw Paw hosting the first jamboree at Heritage Glen.

Otsego grabbed the first victory of the new season as it shot 169.

Defending champion Dowagiac was second at 174 with Plainwell and Vicksburg tying for third at 181.

Evan Stack of Otsego was the medalist with a round of 38.

The Chieftains placed three players inside the top 10, led by Jordan Juday and Andrew Wild, who both shot 41. Christian Hess finished with a 43. Cody Fairleigh and Jon Robinson each shot 49 for Dowagiac.

“This is much improved from yesterday,” Dowagiac coach Van Johnson said. “And much more palatable. We just need some help in certain areas. You don’t have to win them all. Yesterday I didn’t think we were going to be in it. Today we were right in the hunt.”
