Niles baseball team defeated by Indians

The Niles varsity baseball team dropped a 6-2 decision to South Bend St. Joseph in its season opener despite outhitting the Indians Tuesday afternoon.

Taylor Campbell took the loss for the Vikings (0-1). Chris Mangus, Mitchell Dehn and Tate Brawley all combined on a 3-hitter.

Niles did commit three errors in the contest.

Matthew McLaughlin and Mangus each had doubles as the Vikings outhit St. Joseph 4-3.

The Indians were a last-minute replacement for Dowagiac, which was originally supposed to play Niles Tuesday. The game between the Chieftains and Vikings will not be made up.
