EAU CLAIRE — The Dowagiac golf team opened its season with an easy victory over host Berrien Springs Tuesday at Indian Lake Hills.

Jordan Juday grabbed medalist honors as the Chieftains defeated the Shamrocks 158-197. Juday shot 36.

Dowagiac also got a 37 from Cody Fairleigh, while Christian Hess shot 42, Jon Robinson 43, Paul Lamphere 45 and Andrew Wild 47.

Berrien Springs was led by Cameron Coyier’s 47.

“I was pleased with the kids’ score tonight,” Dowagiac coach Van Johnson said. “We can obviously see the holes in our game when we start charting the round. We had nine double bogeys team-wise. Just take two off of it and suddenly you save yourself seven strokes.

“We are not having much success with putting the ball on the green, but we are having success with chipping and putting.”
