Disco Jazz Dancin' Miami painting by Robert Seifert

The Easter theme of rebirth is mirrored in a memorial exhibition of the work of South Bend artist, Robert Seifert, at Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Center in Niles.

Seifert’s prints are rich with meaning and symbolism — his use of mixed media mirroring the complexities of his quiet personality. Cutwork paper, collage, photo transfer, silkscreen, watercolor and other media and techniques are presented in this exhibit. The memorial exhibition will be in Fernwood’s Gallery from March 30 through May 6. An opening reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. March 30.
Born in South Bend, Seifert graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1962 and attended Florida Keys Junior College. After receiving his associate in arts degree in 1972, he attended Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, where he received his bachelor of fine arts degree and teacher certification in 1976.

Later, he worked at the W.O.R.K.S. Silkscreen Design Studio in San Francisco before returning to South Bend, where Seifert worked at Framer’s Workshop for the next 33 years.

Many local artists came to depend on his artistry and craftsmanship as a framer. He taught at the South Bend Museum of Art for many years and served as preparator for 20 years for the Colfax Campus Gallery. Seifert participated in numerous exhibitions as exhibitor or juror. He received awards for his work and grants for innovative educational projects.
Seifert was a valued Fernwood member and donor who often was seen escorting his mother through the gardens.
