The St. Joseph Police Department reports that two unknown persons victimized an elderly resident Monday morning.

The victim was duped into a roofing scheme and was distracted from the front of her house as an unknown person entered the home through the front door and pried open a locked filing cabinet. It is believed that jewelry was stolen.

The only description given was a white male in his 20s, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, has dark wavy hair and was wearing a white shirt.  The second person was never seen. No vehicle was spotted.

“We cannot express enough to our residents to not open their doors to strangers and never let anyone into your home,” Det. Dale F. Easton stated in a press release. “Always ask for identification.

“If you receive a phone call that you won the lottery or receive a check in the mail that you won something, it’s probably not true. Do not give personal information over the phone to an unsolicited stranger.”
