A traffic crash occurred at 7:11 a.m. Wednesday at U.S. Highway 12 and Conrad Road in Ontwa Township, Cass County.

A car driven by Kimmarie Bogold, 38, from Daily Road, Edwardsburg, was in the westbound lane stopped waiting for traffic to make a left turn southbound on Conrad Road. She was with her 4-year-old daughter. Her vehicle was stuck from behind by a vehicle driven by Laura Hughes, 52, of Washington Boulevard, Edwardsburg, who was also westbound.

When the Bogold vehicle was struck it was forced by the impact to enter the eastbound lane, where it was immediately struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by Jared Holst, 17, of Rocking Horse Lane, Niles, and his sister, 12, as they were going to school in Edwardsburg.

All drivers and passengers were using seatbelts or car seats at the time of the crash and alcohol was not involved. (Editor’s note: An initial press release provided by the police department about this accident incorrectly stated that alcohol was involved in the crash.)

Drivers and passengers were attended to by the Edwardsburg Area Ambulance Service and checked for injuries and released, with no injuries.

The Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police were assisted at the scene by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the Edwardsburg Fire Department.
