BANGOR — It is the end of the greatest era in Brandywine girls basketball history.

Number 2-ranked Concord ended a four-year reign of the Bobcats with a 56-45 victory in the Class C quarterfinals Tuesday night.

Brandywine went 88-12 over the last four years with four district championships, three regional championships, two quarterfinal appearances and one semifinal appearance.

On Tuesday night, the Yellow Jackets were the better team and they proved it through the final three quarters of the contest.

In the end, it came down to shooting and rebounding.

The Bobcats (24-2) finished 16-of-53 (30 percent) and were outrebounded 38-19. Even worse, the Yellow Jackets held a 17-3 advantage on the offensive glass.

“It’s a simple formula,” Brandywine coach Josh Hood said. “Again, our No. 1 key tonight because we are not the biggest key was rebounding. If you don’t take pride in rebounding, sooner or later its going to come up and bite you.”

Brandywine was 7-of-13 from the field compared to 7-of-19 for Concord. But the Bobcats couldn’t keep the Yellow Jackets off the glass giving them second and third chances nearly every time down the floor in the first half.

Brandywine was able to take a 20-19 advantage after the opening eight minutes thanks to a 3-point play by senior Madison Pellow with 39 seconds left in the quarter.
