MHSAA wrestling update: Mucha advances

AUBURN HILLS — In the consolation second round, Buchanan’s Jeff Mucha remained alive with a win over Jordan Bennett.

Mucha edged Bennett of Lake Odessa-Lakewood 4-3 in their 135-pound match.

Brandywine’s Victor Moranchel has been eliminated from the state tournament.

After winning his first match of the consolation round over Brock Vlcek of Manchester 10-6, Moranchel was pinned by Lawton’s Kyle Barkovich in the second round at 103-pounds in 3:35.

Niles’ Casey Burandt was also eliminated from the tournament as he was defeated by Travis Heller of Escanaba 4-2.

The second round of consolation matches is currently under way. The championship semifinals will begin tonight at 7.
