A Berrien County Jail inmate attempted suicide Feb. 23 by falling off the second floor railing of her dormitory.

According to Undersheriff Chuck Heit, Betsy Kwasny attempted to harm herself by intentionally falling off the railing at approximately 10:15 a.m. Kwansy was transported to the Lakeland Hospital, where she received treatment for her injuries.

She was transported Monday to Women’s Huron Valley correctional facility, where she is currently serving her sentence.

During the investigation it was discovered that Kwasny’s actions were an attempt to avoid going back to prison. The investigation is being forward to the Berrien County Prosecutors Office for review.
