Driver arrested for carrying gun

City police arrested two young Dowagiac men Saturday night for possession of a handgun and on drug-related charges.
Public Safety Director Tom Atkinson repots that at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday, a Dowagiac officer conducted a traffic stop for an equipment violation on Hill Street near Clinton Street.
Officers learned the driver was in possession of a loaded handgun without a permit.
The police department canine unit was assisting at the scene and searched the vehicle, also finding marijuana.
Officers arrested the driver, a 20-year-old Dowagiac male, for carrying a concealed weapon.
One of the passengers, a 19-year-old Dowagiac male, was arrested for marijuana possession.
He was also later charged with smuggling narcotics into the Cass County Jail when he was found to be in possession of an additional quantity of marijuana.
Police withheld both subjects’ names pending arraignment.
The case remains under investigation.
