CASSOPOLIS — An Edwardsburg man who earned his third drunken driving conviction is headed to jail.
Robin Degraff, 51, was sentenced to 120 days in jail and two years probation Friday in Cass County Circuit Court.
Degraff was driving on Redfield Road in Edwardsburg while intoxicated on Jan. 24, 2010, when he drove his vehicle into a driveway and hit a truck with a man inside. The truck was spun out of the driveway and into a ditch.
The victim suffered cracked ribs, cuts to his face and a back injury.
Degraff blew a 0.34 percent blood alcohol content level — more than four times the legal limit in Michigan.
“That’s extremely high,” said Judge Michael Dodge. “You don’t get there being a novice drinker or having a few beers.”
Prosecutor Victor Fitz agreed.
“At age 51, the albatross of alcohol is fixed firmly to the throat of this defendant,” Fitz said.
Defense attorney Dale Blunier said his client has been sober since the accident and attending Alcohol Anonymous meetings.
After his release from jail, Degraff must spend 90 days on an alcohol monitoring tether.
