New Tech director leaving

Published 12:40am Thursday, February 23, 2012

Niles New Tech Director Patrick Malley will be leaving his position for a job in Midland Public Schools at the end of the month. He will be opening a New Tech school there, according to Niles Supt. Richard Weigel. Malley’s last day is Wednesday.

New Tech American Studies teacher Jerry Holgren will serve as interim director.

The district will post an opening for the director position sometime in May. Holgren will be considered as a full-time replacement.

“It is an awesome place, and I am excited to have the opportunity to lead it with the help of the facilitators,” Holgren said. “It is a really special environment and a real testament to that will be to see how many people are standing outside (Saturday).”
