A 49-year-old Niles man was struck and killed by a car while attempting to cross U.S. 12 in Niles Township early Tuesday morning.

Scott Parm was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Michigan State Police report.

Parm had been an employee at Shelton’s Farm Market in Niles since 1999.

Deb Shelton, of Shelton’s Farm Market, said Parm would normally walk to work from his home.

“Everybody was shocked to hear about it. He was just a really great guy, and we are going to miss him,” Shelton said.

The accident occurred at around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 12 and Third Street.

A police report said Parm was attempting to cross U.S. 12 when an eastbound vehicle hit him. The driver of the vehicle is 52-year-old Sharon Louise Eaton, of Buchanan.

Police are investigating the accident and are asking anyone with to contact the Michigan State Police Niles Post.
