Community Ed classes range from sexuality to ornithology

Lake Michigan College’s Bertrand Crossing Campus in Niles is offering several Community Education classes this March, including Sex Education for Parents; Wheat- and Gluten Free Entertaining; Sexuality, Intimacy and Aging; Ornithology; and Stormy Weather.

• Sex Education for Parents:  What You Need to Know and How to Talk to Your Kids about It

This course seeks to provide factual information about sexuality that parents can incorporate into their own value system, discuss teachable moments and increase communication skills.

Date: March 12, 6 to 8 p.m.

Location: Bertrand Crossing Campus, Room 109

Cost: free

• Wheat- and Gluten-Free Entertaining

An ever-increasing awareness and sensitivity to those with wheat and gluten allergies is bringing more products to the market, but nothing beats home cooking. Join Chef Tim Carrigan at Orchard Hills Country Club to whip up some tasty recipes. Some eating of homework is required.

Date: March 17, 10 a.m. to noon

• Sexuality, Intimacy and Aging

This course will include information and an open discussion on sexuality, intimacy and aging issues including, but not limited to, sexual health, sexual function as we age, sexuality with illness or disability, reentering the dating world and different forms of intimacy.

• Ornithology: Spring Birds in the Yard and in the Field

This course will address the tools experienced birders use, some of the common obstacles to successful bird identification and how to overcome them. There will also be an overview of some of the common springtime birds seen in Berrien County. They help you identify those birds flocking to your feeders.

• Stormy Weather

Does Lake Michigan or its bluff protect us from tornados? Southwestern Michigan experiences several types of severe weather. This class outlines the conditions that produce these storms and gives a short history of the science behind them. Appropriate for home-schoolers.

Date: March 31, 9 to 11 a.m.
