EDWARDSBURG — Police are trying to bring about a peaceful resolution to a standoff with an armed man who barricaded himself in a home southeast of Edwardsburg Monday.

Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz said the man was involved in a domestic issue early Monday morning before barricading himself at a residence on Redfield Road, about a half a mile east of Martin Street.

Police have been in discussions with the man, who is armed with a gun and believed to be alone.

Fitz said the standoff would take as long as is necessary to bring about a peaceful resolution.

At around 2:30 p.m., police detained a man claiming to be a friend of the man involved in the standoff. He approached police near the intersection of Martin and Redfield saying he was “Mikey’s” friend and could help get him out. Police asked the man to stay calm and eventually restrained him.

Officers from the Michigan State Police, Cass County Sheriff’s Department and Ontwa-Edwardsburg Police were on the scene. Fitz said the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department would also provide assistance as needed.
