CASSOPOLIS — The budgeted purchase of an EMC Storage Area Network (SAN) for $15,910 from CDW-G in Chicago was approved Thursday night by the Cass County Board of Commissioners.
Funds come from the Information Systems equipment line item in the 2012 budget.
Information Systems Director Kerry Collins said his department is in the process of upgrading county computer server technology.
These servers run software many departments use and store county data that is created.
This upgrade includes consolidating servers where possible and centralizing data storage with the SAN.
Its primary purpose is to enable storage devices to communicate with computer systems and with each other.
Quotes from four comparable systems made EMC low bidder.
Three other offers ranged from $16,992 to $22,111.
Collins said the price includes shipping and maintenance support for three years.
