Rough week for Ranger basketball teams

The Cassopolis girls and boys basketball teams were swept by host Buchanan in their Lakeland Conference doubleheader Friday night.

The Rangers were defeated by the Lady Bucks 37-29, while the boys team routed Cassopolis 70-38.

Buchanan (9-6, 6-3 Lakeland) outscored Cassopolis (7-9, 4-5 Lakeland) 14-4 in the opening quarter and never looked back.

The Bucks led 23-12 at halftime and 27-17 heading to the final quarter.

Tammy Lee led the Rangers with 11 points. Breanna Coleman and Courtney Moore each had six.

Buchanan’s Erin Glavin scored 20 to lead all scorers.

The Rangers were held to just eight first half points in the boys game.

The Bucks led 18-2 after the opening quarter and 39-8 by halftime.

Mitchell Moore scored seven points for Cassopolis.

Jalen Brown had 14 points for the Bucks, who also got 12 points from Justin Henderson.

Monday night, the Rangers made up their Lakeland Conference game with visiting Berrien Springs.

Cassopolis got off to a good start, leading 15-10 after one quarter.

It was all Berrien Springs after that.

The Shamrock outscored the Rangers 71-49 over the final three quarters, including 34-17 in the pivotal second period.

The Rangers’ Damien Brown led all scorers with 24 points. Moore finished with nine points.

Jon Williams and Zechariah Jenkins scored 17 and 16 respectively to pace the Shamrocks.
