The Rotary Club of Niles-Buchanan renewed during its January meeting its pledge of donating presents to needy families at Christmas time.

The club spent $1,000 in December on presents for six families in the Niles, Buchanan and Brandywine school districts. Spearheaded by Rotary President Kim Wooden, this was the second year for the project.

“We know there are families that may not have been able to provide a special holiday for their children, and we wanted to help,” Wooden said. “In addition to raising the money internally, we also did all the shopping.”

The Rotarians work closely with the local school districts throughout the year. During the holidays, the club approached the school districts offering their support to families in need.

Along with the holiday support, the Rotarians support the local community by providing college scholarships to high school seniors (more than $215,000 in scholarships since the 1960s), donating funds to the local parks departments and more.
