Mary Armstrong, 82 / Jan. 1, 1930 — Feb. 6, 2012

Mary L. Armstrong, 82, of Regent Street, Niles, died at 12:44 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Hospice House in South Bend following an extended illness.

She was born Jan. 1, 1930, in Chicago to Oscar F. and Mary E. (Rill) Wieghart.  She moved to the area at age 13 and graduated from Niles High School in 1948. Mary worked as a telephone operatory for many years and was later employed by Simplicity Pattern in Niles.

On March 3, 1962, in Niles, she married Richard F. Armstrong, he preceded her in death Feb. 25, 2001.

Mary is survived by her son, Frank Miner of Niles; daughter, Patricia (Craig) Armstrong of Livingston, Mont.; twin daughters, Laurie (Chris) VanOrman of Hillsdale, Mich., and Lisa (Stephen) Thomas of Omaha, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Robert, Jacqueline, Kathleen, Sarah, Zachary, Patrick and Ryan; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Patricia Graham of Niles; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mary L. Armstrong will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Saint Mark Catholic Church in Niles by the Rev. Thomas King, C.S.C., of the church.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Contributions in memory of Mary may be made to the Saint Mark Catholic Church in Niles.
