Dowagiac grapplers 0-2 at Niles

NILES – Host Niles and Brandywine will head into the post season with a pair of victories under their belts.
Meanwhile, Dowagiac and Three Rivers will begin their preparation for the Wolverine Conference Tournament on Saturday coming off a pair of losses.
The Vikings defeated Three Rivers 54-10 and the Chieftains 66-10 Wednesday night in a quadangular meet. The Bobcats edged the Chieftains 42-36 in a match that featured seven forfeits between the two squads.
Brandywine also defeated Three Rivers 52-27 to end the evening.
Despite the losses, Dowagiac coach Matt Alward was pleased with the way his team wrestled against the Bobcats.
In the seven weight classes that were actually contested on the mat, the Chieftains came away winners in five of those matches.
Dowagiac picked up wins by Matt Lyle (130), Aubrey Huston (145), Tom Smith (152), Daniel Crandall (160), Carl Grant (215) and Tristen Howard (285) against the Bobcats.
Lyle, Crandall and Grant finished with two wins on the night.
Niles’ Fritzel Findeisen earned his 100th career victory when he received a forfeit in the Dowagiac match.
He won two matches on the evening, along with Brendon Meek, Darek Mills, Cole Allison, Donte Stevens, John Couch, Ryan Casey and Derek Scott.
The Bobcats got two wins from Aaron Wentz, Jimmie Wright, Williams Newton, Chanc Ravish and Joseph Monica.
Niles is now headed to Battle Creek Lakeview for the Big 16 Conference tournament Saturday, while Brandywine will be hosting the expanded Lakeland Conference Tournament.
Besides the Lakeland schools, the Red Arrow and the St. Joe Valley leagues will be competing.
Dowagiac will travel to Paw Paw Saturday for the Wolverine Conference Tournament.
