As one of its 2011 holiday projects, the staff of Cassopolis Family Clinic donated and collected food for Helping Hands of Cass County food panty.
Nonperishable donations were accepted from the community, and the clinic’s board of directors made a donation of $1,500 to support the food drive.
“The need in our community is great,” said Mary Middleton, the clinic’s executive director. “People come to us for health care, but their needs are far greater. Many people need food for their families.”
Mary Tompi, director of Helping Hands, requests anyone interested in donating food for the panty to contact her at 445-8104, or drop off donations at 142 S. Broadway St. in downtown Cassopolis.
Nonperishable foods needed are Tuna Helper and canned tuna, uncooked spaghetti and cans or jars of spaghetti sauce, Hamburger Helper, canned soups, uncooked rice and beans. Cereals are always welcome.
Helping Hands purchases one-pound packages of frozen ground beef and turkey, as well as hotdogs, with cash donations.
“Hunger doesn’t have a season,” Middleton said.
“We have to care every day. If you can, please help those who don’t have enough to eat. Please consider making a donation to a food pantry in your community.”
