Ice age leads off lectures

Kicking off this year’s spring lecture series at the Museum at Southwestern Michigan College is “Ice Age Imperials: Prehistoric Animals of Southwest Michigan.” The Feb. 1 lecture will be presented by Christina Hirn Arseneau, director of the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center in St. Joseph.
The free hour-long lecture begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Upton Educational Center at the Museum.
Hirn Arseneau will examine animals, such as the mastodon, wooly mammoth and saber-tooth cat, which are highlighted in the “Ice Age Imperials” exhibit at the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center.
Other lectures slated for the spring series are “Southwest Michigan Connections to the Titanic” on March 7 presented by Jennifer Quail, from the Museum at SMC, and Tracy Gierada, from the North Berrien Historical Museum; “Rwanda: A Story of Hope and Survival – Rising from the Ashes” on April 4 presented by Dr. Ilene and Rick Sheffer; and “German Prisoners on Southwest Michigan Farms” on May 2 presented by Howard Poole, formally with Western Michigan University.
