Weather wipes out sports

Mother Nature picked up a win Friday afternoon as she wiped out all of the area sports contests.

With the area getting more than five inches of snow by noon and projections of over a foot in some areas by the time the night is through, Brandywine, Cassopolis, Dowagiac, Edwardsburg and Niles postponed or canceled their scheduled events.

Brandywine

The Bobcats were scheduled to host a JV wrestling tournament Friday night, but that event was canceled and will not be made up.

Brandywine’s girls and boys basketball teams were scheduled to travel to Coloma for Lakeland Conference competition, but was postponed. The girls are tentatively scheduled for Feb. 13 and the boys for Feb. 28.

Cassopolis

The Rangers were scheduled to host Berrien Springs in a Lakeland Conference boys basketball game. That event was postponed.

No make-up date has been announced.

Dowagiac

The Chieftain JV wrestling team was supposed to compete in the Brandywine Invitational Friday night, while the varsity squad was heading north to Gladwin for a Saturday tournament.

Both of those tournaments have been canceled and will not be made up.

The Chieftains’ Wolverine Conference girls and boys basketball games have been postponed. The games have been rescheduled for Jan. 23.

Edwardsburg

The Eddies were scheduled to play a girl-boy Lakeland Conference doubleheader Friday night.

The boys basketball game will be made up Monday night with the game scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m.

The girls contest has yet to be rescheduled.

Niles

The Vikings were set to host Portage Northern in a Big 16 West Division doubleheader.

The games have been postponed and no make-up date has been announced.

Scheduling change

Niles and Lakeshore have agreed to make a change to next week’s scheduled contest.

The Vikings and Lancers will play a tripleheader in Stevensville Monday beginning with the freshmen girls’ game at 4:15 p.m. The JV girls game will follow at 5:45 and the JV boys game will wrap up the evening at approximately 7 p.m.

There will also be a tripleheader Tuesday night with Niles hosting Lakeshore for freshmen boys basketball at 4:15 p.m., varsity girls basketball at 5:45 and varsity boys basketball at 7:15 p.m.
