Burn Run receives unique donationPublished 1:45pm Friday, January 13, 2012
The Niles Burn Run Inc. will go into its 11th year with more resources to help its cause.
The organization, which holds a motorcycle run every summer to benefit the Great Lakes Burn Camp for young burn victims, was donated the property of the former Sauk Trail Bar and Grille in Union. The building suffered fire damage in 2010 and never re-opened.
Marc Lancaster, the former owner of the property, turned over the lease at the end of last month.
“I was surprised,” said Burn Run President and Niles Township firefighter Doug Myers. “It was like a late Christmas present.”
Myers said Lancaster used to cater for the Burn Run and was impressed with the organization.
The Niles Burn Run will sell the property to benefit the growth of the organization. An estimate of the property showed the value to be about $109,000.
“It’s definitely a chunk of change for the organization,” Myers said. “That’s the kind of stuff that makes us continue to function and grow.”
Lancaster has opened another restaurant in Elkhart called Sauk Trail on 17.
