LANSING — Sen. John Proos urges southwest Michigan residents looking for a job or considering a career change to visit a new state talent and jobs website.
“Finding a job can be tough, but the new Pure Michigan Talent Connect website offers a one-stop shop for assistance in finding a new job or preparing for a new career,” said Proos, R-St. Joseph. “I strongly encourage all unemployed or underemployed southwest Michigan workers to take advantage of this invaluable site, especially the Michigan Job Portal and Talent Bank.”
Residents may visit the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website at www.MiTalent.org. The page offers three sections for visitors trying to find a job, employers looking to hire and workers exploring career and educational options.
The Career Matchmaker and Career Investment Calculator are designed to help individuals identify the industries that are in need of their job skills and calculate the value of additional training for a new career.
“As anyone who has had to transfer into a new career knows, the task of determining what field best fits their experience is intimidating,” Proos said. “In addition to being a wonderful means to connect job seekers with employers, the webpage can also help match individuals with the industries that best utilize their skills.”
Other useful information highlighted on the MiTalent site include materials specific to veterans and entrepreneurs, such as the Pure Michigan Mentor Network, small business resources, Military Skills Translator and veterans job search sites.
“It was recently announced that Michigan’s unemployment rate has dropped more than any state in the nation,” Proos said. “The news is promising, but we must continue to improve our economy so southwest Michigan residents who want to work can find a good job. Helping to create jobs is only part of the solution; connecting jobs seekers with employers is also important. And that is what this site was launched to do.”
