MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Visiting Niles overcame a four-point deficit in the final four mintues Saturday night to knock off Mishawaka 70-59 in nonconference boys basketball action.
The Vikings, playing on back-to-back nights, remained undfeated on the season as they used an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter to overtake the Cavemen.
Niles’ Austin Parks sparked the winning rally as he scored eight of his game-high 20 points during that stretch. A rebound basket by Parks got the Vikings rolling and then Niles hit 9-of-10 free throws in the final minute to stave off the Mishawaka upset bid.
After a night of woeful free throw shooting in its win over Mattawan on Friday, the Vikings were nearly perfect from the charity stripe Saturday night. Niles went from 12-of-20 against the Wildcats to 21-of-23 against the Cavemen.

Key player
Another key to the victory was the play of senior Myles Busby. Besides netting 13 points, Busby tookover the point guard position in the fourth quarter as the Vikings looked to get Parks and Matthew McLaughlin open for shots.
Parks finished the night 7-of-10 from the field. McLaughlin was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
Niles also used its trap defense to force turnovers. Mishawaka committed five in the fourth quarter alone, which led to seven easy points for the Vikings.
Quintin Irby added 10 points and grabbed six rebounds for Niles, which also got seven rebounds and seven points from Taylor Campbell.
Mishawaka (5-3) was led by Cody Childress’ 16 points. Chris Mitchell and Brandon Vanderheggeneach scored 13 and T.J. Benner finished with 11.
